All about the author
Laura Peace has noticed that these “About the Author” blurbs tend to be written in the third person, so has decided to go with the status quo despite its awkwardness. She grew up in various communities in New Mexico, including Albuquerque and a few blink-and-you’ll-miss-it maybe-they’ll-get-a-stop-light-some-day towns, and earned her first degree from the University of New Mexico. She moved to the Denver area in Colorado to begin her teaching career and has taught middle school English and theater for the past quarter of a century (Yes, you’re right! That makes her feel very old to say that, and she likes the connotation of the word “seasoned” much, much better. Indeed, “seasoned” makes her think of accomplishment and knowledge- skill, even. Though her students, who are typically 13 and 14, might disagree and deny that she has any skill whatsoever. Why, she can’t even reach the top of the doorpost to smack it with the talent of Shaq breaking a backboard, doesn’t bother to celebrate when the number 6 is immediately followed by 7, and *gasp* doesn’t freak out when she manages to “split the pole” in the hallway. No. They would most certainly agree that she is, alas, old rather than skilled.). While spending her years teaching, she managed to also raise her only son, pick up a handful of additional degrees that don’t really matter, and play her violin in a few local symphonies- just one at a time, though. Sheesh! Currently, she lives in Littleton with her husband, her son and step-son, and the fur babies. When she’s not writing, teaching, or playing the violin, she can be found reading a smorgasbord of books (yes, she used the word and doesn’t even feel a little bit bad about it), painting, rotting her brain on social media videos, streaming old geeky shows and anything starring Dean Cain and Candace Cameron Bure (again, she makes no apologies), and enjoying the community of her church.
